Decoration Day 2025

Decoration Day is always the fourth Sunday in May.  Sometimes that is on Memorial Day weekend, and some years it is not.

This year that works out to be May 25, 2025.

Everyone is welcome to clean graves and place new flowers anytime leading up to Decoration Day.

Please make plans to attend the Memorial Service at 10:30 AM, and the Business Meeting at 11:30 AM.

Membership in the Bankhead Cemetery Association is open to all interested persons over eighteen years of age who reside within a radius of fifteen miles from the Bankhead Cemetery or who reside elsewhere but have relatives buried in the cemetery.  Become a member and you will be eligible to vote and hold office in the association.  Sign up to be a member at Decoration Day.  See Secretary Fred Johnson.

Bring your family, and bring lunch.

Garbage Dumpster

A garbage dumpster will be at the Cemetery from May 16 to May 26 for disposal of old flowers and decorations.

Verify Your Reserved Burial Plot

If you or a family member think that you have reserved burial plots at Bankhead Cemetery, please verify that with Trustee Hershell Pruitt (256) 516-2193. We need to make certain that you are listed on the plot plan. If you are not on the plot plan drawing, you do not have a reserved plot.

President Ronnie Lee Jones

It is with deep respect and heartfelt gratitude that we honor the life and legacy of Mr. Ronnie Lee Jones, who served with unwavering dedication as the President of the Bankhead Cemetery Association. His passing leaves a profound void in our community, and his contributions will not soon be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Daniel Jones, who was a Trustee of the Bankhead Cemetery Association.

As a leader, Ronnie demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to preserving the history and dignity of the Bankhead Cemetery. He saw beyond the simple preservation of a resting place; to him, it was a sacred duty to ensure that the memories of those who came before us were respected and cherished. Under his leadership, the Association flourished — transforming the cemetery into not just a final resting place, but a living tribute to the generations that shaped our community.
Mr. Jones had a unique ability to balance the practical with the reverent. Whether overseeing maintenance, organizing community events, or advocating for the preservation of the cemetery’s historical records, he gave of his time, energy, and heart without hesitation. His passion was contagious, inspiring others to volunteer, donate, and lend their support. He brought people together in ways that transcended the work at hand, fostering a shared sense of purpose that united all who were fortunate enough to work alongside him.
More than just a leader, Ronnie was a source of quiet strength and wisdom. He listened when others spoke, valued every perspective, and approached challenges with a level-headed calm that helped guide the Association through even the most difficult times. His integrity, humility, and kindness were the foundation of his leadership, and these qualities will continue to inspire all who carry forward his work.
Though he is no longer with us, his impact will endure. His vision for the Bankhead Cemetery Association will live on in the well-maintained grounds, the historical records preserved for future generations, and the vibrant community that continues to support this vital institution. He leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love for his community — a legacy that will never be forgotten.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life and the invaluable contributions he made. Rest in peace, my friend. Your work has touched many lives, and your spirit will forever be a part of the Bankhead Cemetery, a place that will always stand as a testament to your dedication.
